Today, most people would consider Elvis a very tame rock n’ roller, but many still believe he rocks. In any event, the stage for this type of music was set even before Elvis rocked onto the scene. Artists like Muddy Waters, B.B King, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and other early Blues greats paved the way and began experimenting with early rock sounds. Since then, this genre of music has done nothing but expand, transform and grow into the world’s most-listened to music genre.

The 60s Rock!

Bands like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and Led Zeppelin were all a direct outcome of the Blues scene and the metamorphosis of its sounds. Never before heard music, lyrics and stage presence opened the eyes of listeners everywhere with these top acts.

The 70s Rock!

The 70s brand of rock evolved more from the 60s brand of rock and roll, bringing us artists like the Clash, Blondie, David Bowie, AC/ DC, Jeff Beck and the Police. The 70s marked a departure from rock, too. Disco and funk began creeping into the music scene of the day and rock splintered to form several new, innovative genres that would last for decades.

The 80s Rock!

More change and evolution of rocks ensued in the 80s. Acts like REM began exploring different sounds in rock, while Madonna introduced her brand of pop to the world. Michael Jackson of the Jackson Five fame burst onto the scene, proclaiming himself the kick of pop. Many refer to the 80s as a low point in the rock and roll music landscape. There were some bright spots including U2, Sonic Youth and The Smiths.

The 90s Rock!

With the emergence of a type of rock sound called Grunge, prompted by the Seattle scene including Nirvana and Pearl Jam; rock and roll spawned a sub-genre called Alternative. The alt rock scene gave birth to a myriad bands with rock in their veins, and bands like Primus, Hole, L7, Sepultura, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine and Green Day

The Millennium Rocks!

The millennium does rock! Rock has enjoyed a resurgence and a return to it’s roots since 2000. Just listen to the radio and you’ll hear the root of rock in the pop and alternative, punk and Emo songs on the radio.
